JAPANESE ILLUSTRATORS IN NY Cre8-vol.4
The July exhibition at NY Coo Gallery is gJAPANESE ILLUSTRATORS IN NY Cre8-vol.4,h the fourth installment of group exhibition presented by Cre8 (pronounced gcreateh), the Japanese artist management agency established in 1972. The company, which represents over 300 illustrators, acts as a bridge that spans artists and businesses.
In Japan, where anime culture was born, illustrations are everywhere, from magazines and newspapers to product catalogs and advertisement posters. There are Japanese artists who work with traditional subjects and techniques, and those who create the art for todayfs world.
The 12 artists featured in the latest Cre8 exhibition are all trend-setting frontline illustrators and designers in todayfs Japan. Each has a different background (the president of a computer graphics agency who horned his artistic talent while working for a computer game company, a self-trained artist whose biggest influence comes from the ceramist grandfather, and the ones who studied art in school, etc.) yet nearly half of them incorporate computer graphics with their creations. The rest works with softer tones such as watercolor and sumi ink drawings as well as a collage using newspaper and photographs. A 3-D objet dfart will also be displayed.
One of the highlights of the exhibition is the humor seen in many artworks. We hope you will join us to see the new ideas by a group of illustrators who represent the latest trend in modern Japanese art as well as in advertisement and publishing industries.
