Hideyoshi Ido
"Things Visible Yet Invisible"
October 29 - November 15, 2008
Reception: Friday, October 31 5:00PM-7:30PM
In November 2008, NY Coo Gallery is happy to present Hideyoshi Ido and his photographic works.
“My photographs are cutouts of the New York moments that I have witnessed,’” says Ido about his work. As he watched the horrifying images of 9/11 that included the collapsing of the Twin Towers on television, Ido, having realized the vulnerability of modern civilization and how easily it could be lost, felt an urge - desire - to photograph moments that he encountered in his daily life in an effort to preserve “today.”
Ido’s photographs are printed on various non-paper materials that allow for 3-dimensional effects. Always in search of new ways to express his ideas, Ido, presents his photographs by applying his film negatives on such unconventional materials as poster boards, wood pieces, rubber, clay and plaster
-boards.
When one walks into Ido’s studio and sees all of the ingenious - if not unusual - items that he calls “photo-making tools and materials,” one would get a sense of being in a science laboratory.
This exhibition of Ido’s work features photographic images presented by using various artistic techniques. Such techniques include a diorama of Central Park and animals on plasterboard, 3-dimensional images of Ka-Cho-Fu-Getsu (the beauty of nature) set in a rooftile-like composition and hand-painted monochrome prints.
Like Eugene Atget, a French photographer famous for his images of Paris, its people and their life, Ido, who admires Atget’s work, never leaves the house without a camera. “When I see the spot where time seems to stand still,” says Ido, “I aim and shoot. I want to capture and preserve ‘today’ for tomorrow.”

other non-paper surfaces,as a painting. Please come visit our gallery and see "the things
that are visible yet invisible."
