Part 2: Makoto Nukada Solo Exhibition
May 18~May 31, 2007

The month of May at NY Coo Gallery features two solo exhibitions by artists who convey their concern for the future - and survival - of mankind through art.
Faced with serious environmental threats such as destruction of nature, over-population, drastic changes in ecosystem and global warming, all bi-products of a materialistic society we live in, each artist found a unique way to express his love for mankind and passion to better its future.

Makoto Nukada
gTherefs no fundamental difference in creating paintings with brushes, including air brush, and computer-generated paintings,h says Makoto Nukada who uses every available creative materials and techniques such as oil and acrylic
paints, air brush, computer graphics and mixed media.
Nukada grew up amid Japanese sub-cultures such as monster movies, anime TV and manga (Japanese comic magazines), and was deeply influenced by Japanese art, namely works by Sesshu Kataoka, as well as the philosophy behind Noh and other Japanese theaters.
Nukadafs three-dimensional creation perfectly expresses the world inside his mind and depicts his subconsciousness. In explaining the metallic, inorganic appearance of his subjects, one of the characteristics of Nukadafs paintings, he says, gI have a certain kind of fetishism towards metal. Because I am a fragile organic being that eventually wither and die, I admire metal for its durability and permanency. Actually, I have this desire to try metal sculptures.h
Nukadafs computer-generated paintings have received high raves for its originality and artistic expressiveness. Free of creative limitations, thanks to computer technology, Nukada, through his work, challenges the modern society and its self-destructive nature.
